Judy Obersi was born in Curacao, Netherlands Antilles, in 1973. She moved to Canada in 1991 to pursue her education in engineering and architecture. Judy graduated in 1997 with a Masters in Architecture from Dalhousie University. Judy continues to contribute to the architecture community as a sessional educator and regular guest critic at Dalhousie.

Judy has worked with Sjoerd Soeters Architecten in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Le Group Arcop in Montreal, Canada.

For the past 13 years, Judy has successfully juggled her own residential design practice in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her work includes new homes, renovations, additions and large-scale collaborative projects. Judy distinguishes herself by working closely with clients to understand their aspirations, facilitate informed decisions, and keep plans within scope and budget while delivering uniquely conceived projects. In everyday design Judy searches to unfold the unique story of each building, influenced by the location, site conditions and our unique culture.

Aside from running her own design practice, she is an avid collaborator with Architects in the community, and is an intern architect with the NSAA.

Judy was a recipient of the 2013 Lieutenant governors design citation award in architectural design for her collaboration with Lisa Tondino on the Ritchie Gidney residence.

Judy has sat on a number of boards and is currently co-chair of the Lemarchant-St. Thomas school advisory council.

Before starting her current career in residential design, Judy worked in the film industry.
When not working, Judy keeps herself busy conquering her fears like x-country skiing downhill, sailing in new waters and parenting two young children.
